We have had a few inquiries about some of the wedding details so we thought others might be wondering about these things too.

Where do you get your ticket to go up the Skyride (Gondola)?

- You will pick up your complementary ticket at the base of Grouse Mountain in the Guest Services center on the day of the wedding. It is located near the Starbucks and quite easy to find. Your ticket is good for only one return ride so bring everything you need for the evening! The last gondola leaves the mountain at 1 am and the staff can assist with calling taxis.

What time should you be there?

-Our ceremony is at the top of the mountain on the Timber Deck. It will start promptly at 5:30 pm. The skyride runs every 15 minutes and takes about 8 minutes to reach the top. We recommend arriving at the base of Grouse Mountain no later than 5:00 pm.

How do you get to the ceremony and reception site once at the top?

- As you get off the Skyride, stay right and follow the covered hallway into the Peak Chalet building. At the very end of that hallway is the entrance to the Timber Deck, our ceremony site. The Timber reception room , adjacent to the deck, will open at 6 pm.

A few other tips to keep in mind:

Everyone will be standing on the deck for the 20 minute ceremony. There will be a few chairs available for the older and very young guests. We will transfer inside if it is really raining.

We will be providing some drinks and also a cash bar.

We will send out any last details by e-mail, but also check the blog for any last minor updates or give us an e-mail or call.

Did you know that RSVP comes from the French? It is amazing what you learn in Canadian school system!!

Many of you probably received the invitations to our wedding in the mail by now. They went out in the mail on June 15th, so if you have not received it yet, you should see it any day.

As you will have noticed at the bottom (assuming that you have received it), we have asked for your RSVP by email. Why have we bucked tradition you may ask? In addition to the environmental benefits, as we correspond with many of you by the computer anyways, it just seems to make sense.

Therefore, if you could please reply to Trev’s email with the subject heading “Wedding RSVP” with your response, we will greatly appreciate it!

When you reply, please tell us:
· Number of guests attending
· Any dietary restrictions such as allergies, vegetarian, etc.
· Special requirements, ie high chairs

Please reply by Wednesday, July 15th at the latest.

Introduction

Hello everyone and welcome to our blog. For those of you who don't know what a blog is, it is short for a "web-log" that people use to share their ideas and events with people over the internet. With all the things we have going on for the wedding, it seemed like an excellent way to let everyone know what is happening.

As you know, we are getting married on Friday August 14 2009 on Grouse Mountain, Vancouver BC.

This site will provide you with numerous details about the wedding, as well as important pre- and post-events. Anything that is underlined is a link to the item's actual webpage.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone for their well wishes and support.

Wedding Details

Friday August 14^th – Grouse Mountain 6400 Nancy Greene Way, North Vancouver

5:30 pm	Ceremony – civil ceremony on the outdoor deck
7:00 pm	Reception – in the banquet room adjacent to the deck
7:30 pm	Dinner

Getting to Grouse Mountain

Driving to North Vancouver

Our guests from Metro Vancouver are well aware of the heavy traffic delays that can occur in Downtown Vancouver and on the North Shore Bridges. Traffic conditions for the Lions Gate Bridge and Iron Workers Memorial (2nd Narrows) Bridge are available online at the Translink web site DriveBC.com or on local traffic radio stations such as AM 730.

In good conditions, it can take only 15 minutes to get from downtown to North Vancouver. With heavy traffic or an accident it can take much longer. Since our wedding is on a Friday evening in the summer, rush hour traffic will be in effect from about 3 pm onwards. We recommend an early start to your drive!

Taxi from North Vancouver Hotels

If you are staying at a hotel in North Vancouver, and don't feel like driving home later, a taxi to Grouse Mountain is probably the best option. The local taxi company is North Shore Taxi at 604 987-7171.

Arrival at Grouse Mountain

Please plan to arrive at the ceremony site on the top of Grouse Mountain by 5:15 pm. The ceremony will start at 5:30 sharp.

There is a pay parking lot as well as limited free gravel or street parking if you don't mind walking a bit J

A complementary Skyride (gondola) ticket will be available for each guest at the base of the mountain.

The Skyride that will take you to the ceremony & reception site departs every 15 min. It's about a 10 minute ride to the top.

On Grouse Mountain

Your complementary Skyride ticket also gives you admission to several summer activities on top of Grouse Mountain.

Grouse Mountain Activities

Feel free to take the Skyride to the top earlier in the day if you wish to take in some activities prior to the wedding. However, please note that only one return trip on the Skyride is provided.

What to bring

If you plan to attend any activities at the top you might consider bringing a comfortable pair of shoes. Some trails are paved – others are not.
It can be a few degrees cooler at the top of the Mountain so a jacket or sweater could be useful.
Our ceremony will be outdoors so please bring an umbrella just in case!

Getting to the ceremony and reception

After departing the Skyride, proceed to the nearby building called the Peak Chalet. The ceremony is on the top floor deck adjacent to the Timber room.

Look for the helicopter landing pad nearby!

Places to Stay

We have arranged for a special rate at the Grouse Inn. There aren't any hotels right at the base of the mountain, but this one is about 10 minutes down the road from Grouse Mountain and is very close to the Lion's Gate Bridge which will take you into downtown Vancouver.

Gift Registry

Should you give us a gift, our preference is for contributions for our honeymoon. As our household is already well equipped, we have decided to indulge in our love of travel. We are planning a honeymoon in December where we plan to go to a very warm, tropical climate. Your help in getting us to a week or two in sunny Cuba would be greatly appreciated!!!

Introducing the Bridal Party

Stephanie

Steph is the younger sister of the Bride. She lives in Prince George with her husband Nathan and sons Ethan, Isaac and Ryan.

As a soon-to-be Dental Assistant, she may just try to poke you in the mouth with something sharp. Watch out!

Carly

Carly and Erin have been friends since they were 15 years old with big bangs and rolled up jeans. Carly lives in Vancouver with her husband Todd and son Leith.

Kyle

Kyle and Trev have known each other since 1990 when our hair was long and Guns N' Roses actually made albums. Despite a degree in Forestry, he is now a computer specialist extraordinaire and stay-at-home Dad to two of the cutest kids around. Kyle lives in North Vancouver with his wife Karen and their children.

Jav

Jav was Trev's best and last Lab partner in college. We did our Masters' together, but while I know the dirt on most any person in history, his field of Toxicology means that he knows the dirt on ... well dirt. Jav lives in Port Moody with his wife Jean.

Kat (Master of Ceremony)

Kat and Trev did both their undergrads together and persevered through Grad school together. She can stand Trevor's martinis while still reading Yeats. As for faults, the only real one is that her and husband Ryan live in Toronto.

Saturday August 15^th

The following day there will be a small reception/gift opening for family at Ellen and Douglas Smith's house in Delta at 3:00 pm.

Things to do in Vancouver

Whistler Mountaineer

As some of you may know, Trev works for a tourist train company that has trips throughout BC. We highly recommend the daily train from North Vancouver to Whistler. You can do it in a day and it really is stunning scenery. Plus there is a promotion on right now, click here for details. (My apologies to our Ontario visitors for Marketing's cheek: if it is any consolation, our President is from London!). Call Trev if you need any help.

Tourism Vancouver has lots of great links for things to do. Music fest will be on from August 2 to 16^th with lots of cool music from around the world.

For anyone who likes theatre, Bard on the Beach is a must. There is something about seeing Shakespeare under a tent outdoors and having the setting sun by the water which is really unforgettable.

Oh and for the kids, the Vancouver Aquarium is always a blast.
